Super Installation

The Internet Conclave, Supera Moras No 49 held its installation meeting in the idyllic surroundings of Rawtenstall Masonic Hall. This conclave travels the province as well as other provinces and its membership are scattered far and wide. It was the turn of Bro I Brian Tynan to be installed into the chair of Supreme Ruler in fine style by WyBro Paul Joynson. Paul has been very busy recently and performed the installation perfectly having just inducted two candidates into his other conclave just two days previously.

The conclave was honoured by the presence of WyBro Chris Givvons who is the Deputy PGSR of our province and is also the Conclave recorder. In attendance was his counterpart from West Midlands, WyBro U Patel. They in turn were joined by other Acting Officers from the Province of East Lancashire as this was a team visit and all those officers attending were introduced to the conclave by Chris at the beginning of the meeting.

Paul and his officers then proceeded to install Brain in a well worked ceremony under the direction of the Director of Ceremonies WyBro Stephen Holcroft who also presented the weapons to the newly installed Supreme Ruler.

The festive board was enjoyed by all, a superb meal served to the usual high standard found at this venue. Chris in his response to the various toasts updated the brethren with future Provincial events and details of the next meeting  of Supera Moras, to be held Saturday 21st April at Hyde masonic hall when three new candidates will be admitted in a ‘triple’ ceremony, well worth a visit and a date to save in the diary.

Two Champions

Champion Conclave No 26 is over 100 years old and recently inducted two candidates in a ‘double’ at their recent meeting. Bro’s Martin Davies and Craig Horrigan, Master Masons from Greenhill Lodge No 6260 were inducted in fine style by WyBro Paul Joynson, who was also their proposer.

The conclave was honoured with the presence of RWyBro Frank Hood Smith, Provincial Grand Supreme Ruler and his Deputy, WyBro Chris Givvons, who along with 15 other brethren saw a very special ceremony superbly directed by RWyBro Stephen Jackson. They gathered in the exquisite surroundings of Darwen masonic hall. In one of the lodge rooms, there is a wonderful stone tablet to commemorate the 100th birthday of the conclave in 1995.

IPSR Alan Frangleton opened the conclave and conducted the lodge business with charisma! He then offered the Chair to Paul who then worked the ceremony of induction assisted by the Brethren of the conclave and many ofthe visitors. WyBro Holcroft delivered the address to the candidates and Stephen Jackson presented the weapons with sincerity.

Champion is growing from strength to strength and there is more to come with candidates and joining members all keen to join this friendly and welcoming conclave with a long history. The festive board was enjoyed by all with friendship and harmony. Stephen Jackson conducted a number auction style raffle which raised an amazing £71 for the charities.

With a double Princess ceremony now firmly on the agenda  a visit to Champion Conclave is well recommended,  The next meeting takes place on Thursday 19th of April so why not visit them and have a Champion evening.

Scarlet Cord Provincial Grand Senatus meeting 2018

The annual meeting of the Provincial Grand Senatus of East Lancashire for the Ancient and Masonic Order of The Scarlet Cord took place at Shaw Masonic Hall on a cold and very wet February morning. Over 40 brethren had endured heavy rain and traffic chaos to share the day with R.Dist.Comp. Howard Stephen Nuttall V and his team of provincial officers.

Howard opened the meeting by welcoming everyone to  Shaw . The brethren had travelled from far and wide to attend Including Durham and Northumberland, Cheshire, North and East Yorkshire,West Lancashire and the Midlands. Plenty of good Masonic banter took place between Howard and his counterparts from around the provinces, the order is growing and membership is now spread across the United Kingdom.

Howard then appointed his Provincial Officers for the ensuing year and thanked them for taking office. During his address he thanked everyone for their support with the instruction to keep smiling and enjoy Scarlet Cord Freemasonry!

The brethren retired to the festive board and enjoyed fine food superbly cooked and served by the Staff at The Gables. Howard took wine with all the distinguished brethren, members of his province and all of the visitors. Membership is open to any Prince of the Order Of The Secret Monitor and he encouraged the brethren to spread the word and seek new members.

There are three consistories to choose from Vale of Irwell meets at Rawtenstall in the evening. Beal meets at Shaw and Pomona at Salford and are both day time Consitories.

Howard wished everyone well and thanked the brethren for attending and looked forward to a prosperous Scarlet Cord year.

A Doctor Joins Doctor JE Glover Conclave

The recent meeting of Dr James Edward Glover Conclave took place at Rochdale Masonic Hall and the ceremony that evening was to induct Dr Craig Wood. Craig holds a doctorate in history and already a member of many Masonic orders so was very keen to join OSM.

The Conclave was honoured with the presence of VWyBro Captain Walter David Porter – Grand Visitor from Grand Conclave in London along with RWyBro Frank Hood Smith, Provincial Grand Supreme Ruler, his deputy, WyBro Christian Givvons PAGDC and a delegation of acting officers of the province of East Lancashire. In total 29 brethren in attendance to see Bro Craig admitted.

Martin Murray, Supreme Ruler, welcomed everyone to the meeting.  Carl Buckley then read a moving eulogy for WyBro Tom Corbally AsstGDC who recently passed to higher service. Tom was the DC of the conclave and the brethren stood to order in his memory.

Once the usual conclave business was concluded Bro Craig Wood was admitted in due form and the ceremony took place to induct him in to the order. WyBro Stephen Holcroft PAGDC stood in as DC for the evening ensuring the proceedings ran smoothly.

Martin inducted Craig in impeccable style assisted by RWyBro Stephen Jackson PGG, Stephen Holcroft and Richard Glover delivered the Weapons perfectly to Craig. Richard also brought the greetings from the widow of James Edward Glover as is traditional in this conclave.

Following the meeting the brethren retired to the festive board: a superb roast beef dinner cooked and served to the usual high standards found at Rochdale masonic hall. Terry Bailey conducted a ‘Rochdale Swindle’ style raffle which raised a fantastic £95 for the charities.

The Grand Visitor, Walter David Porter took time to explain what his role involves, when he is out and about visiting conclaves around the UK, he  talked about the  the ‘Arch of Steel ‘which he is  involved with. He also reminded the brethren of the important role the Visiting Deacon plays in the structure of our order.

Frank Hood Smith in his response to the Toasts, congratulated those who had recently received a promotion or first appointment in Grand Conclave and encouraged the brethren to visit Grand Conclave in London with him.

All those responding congratulated the Supreme Ruler and Officers of the conclave on a first class ceremony and welcomed Craig to the Order.

Carl Buckley proposed a toast to Craig who in his response thanked everyone for making him welcome and  performing interesting ceremony that he enjoyed immensely.

The Sentinel’s toast brought to a close, what had been a most enjoyable evening of Secret Monitor Masonry.
