The very first meeting of The Ancient and Masonic Order of the Scarlet Cord in the Province of East Lancashire took place at Shaw Masonic Hall. Last year saw the order go from strength to strength with the opening of a third consistory thus forming a ‘Province’
The head of the order is R.Dist. Companion Howard Stephen Nuttall V, The Provincial Grand Summus. The Deputy Grand Summas is Dist .Companion Ian Ronson PG.Stwd and Dist. Companion Trevor Jewitt GSwdB is the Assistant Provincial Grand Summas. Along with other provincial officers the meeting was attended by 45 Companions.
The procession was lead in by The Director of Ceremonies Tony Smith in fine style and salutations were given. Howard then introduced distinguished Companions who had travelled from Durham, Cheshire, East Midlands and our neighbours in Yorkshire and West Lancashire. Some of whom produced their passports just in case they would be stopped when ‘crossing the border’! That set the scene for a very relaxed meeting with plenty of banter.
The important business of the Provincial Meeting was conducted in the usual way and then Howard appointed his officers for the coming year.
Howard then rose to address the Companions and thanked all his officers for the effort and hard work that they had put in during the year, membership is stable and the Province is strong, it is hoped that other Secret Monitors would look to join in with this new and unique degree.
Howard is a local lad living in Shaw, he gave a brief history of his home town from its beginning as a wealthy cotton town to its present day way of life.
The companions then retired for a meal at the festive board where the friendly banter continued over a three course dinner of braised steak followed by coffee and mints. Turing the toasts Howard thanked everyone who came along and had made the day very special.
The three Consistories meet across the Province with day time meetings at Salford and Shaw with an evening meeting taking place at Rawtenstall. Any Secret Monitor who has been admitted to the Princes Degree can join the Scarlet Cord and an application form can be obtained from David Norbury, Provincial Recorder by Email firstname.lastname@example.org
