The annual Provincial Scarlet Cord meeting was held for the third time at its now familiar setting of Shaw Masonic Hall. Many of the brethren along with a bevy of distinguished visitors braved high winds and rain to be with R.Dist Companion Howard Stephen Nuttall (V) and his team. A large delegation had travelled ‘over the hills’ from West Lancashire as well as the Midlands, Wales, the North East as well as Yorkshire.
Howard opened the meeting in fine style and conducted the business with much banter and of course…… a smile! He had great pleasure in appointing his team for the ensuing year. The companions were also treated to a most informative geography lesson from Howard as he explained that the names of his three consistories had been derived from the local waterways, in the case of Vale of Irlwell No 16 TI and Beal Valley No 94. Pamona No 106 being named after the dock at the end of the Manchester Ship canal which handled the all important cotton imports on which Lancashire built its fabric weaving industry.
Following a most enjoyable meeting the companions retired to the festive board where a fine meal of braised steak with all the trimmings was enjoyed in true harmony. Howard thanked everyone for attending and remarked that the order was doing well as well as looking forward to the year ahead.
